| Bernie
was born and raised in Chicago. In elementary school his
talents
were recognized and he was accelerated
through school to start high
school a year early. His early interests in science and
technology led him to acquire an amateur radio license at age
14. |

| Upon graduating from high school
Bernie was named an Illinois State
Scholar and attended the Illinois
Institute of Technology where he
earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He
was an
officer in Tau
Epsilon Phi
fraternity and in the campus
leadership fraternity Beta Omega Nu. During his sophomore and
junior years he was a tutor in the campus computer lab, and was a
programmer for three PhD candidates. |

| At the
end of his junior year in
college he went to work full time at
night for the IBM Corporation
while continuing to be a full time
engineering student during the day. It was during
that
summer that he met his wife Denise and began a lifelong
romance.
Six weeks later they were engaged . A few months after Denise
graduated from Northwestern University and Bernie from IIT they were
married. Bernie and Denise have four children: sons Jeff and Rob, and daughters Beth and Cheryl. All four attended Richardson schools before attending the University of Texas. One son is an insurance inspector, another son is an investor, and both daughters are technology instructors at the University of Texas at Austin. |

| A transfer took the family to
Trumbull, Connecticut
for four years before the family became naturalized Texans.
In
Trumbull Bernie became a leader of a Boy Scout Webelos
den, a
practice that he continued when the family moved to Richardson. Bernie enjoys traveling. As a youth, family vacations took him to 46 of the 50 states. Business has taken him to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, England, France, Italy, Mexico and Sweden. Personal travel has added Antigua, Canada, Guadeloupe, Israel, Egypt, Jamaica, Martinique, Netherlands and Puerto Rico. Bernie is a photographer, a scuba diver, an avid reader, a tinkerer, and interested in almost everything. He has published articles in magazines and is engaged in a wide variety of volunteer activities. |
